Soooo yummy! We had a very casual brunch experience in Tucson. We were immediately seated on a Saturday at 11:30 and ordered the chilaquiles verdes with eggs and birria. It was PHENOMENAL! I would absolutely order that again. Husband and I shared it; it was so big. We also ordered a side pancake that was delicious. And the homemade horchata was really tasty. Highly recommend! Sorry the picture is bad - we dove right in and I forget to photograph the beautiful presentation.
$1.99 Taco Tuesday! If that's not a good enough reason to go, I don't know what is.. Stunning restaurant interior, the music was great (I believe they played some salsa and merengue), and the server was helpful. He took a bit to get back to us though, and it wasn't too busy. I wasn't a fan of the red salsa, I felt like there was too much pepper to it? Or a bitter taste? The pico de gallo was ok. The horchata was very creamy, it reminded me of arroz con leche- it tasted very similar. It was a few months ago when I passed by, therefore, when I return and give the tacos another taste- I will update the review.
This location in NW Tucson has been open for about a year and is easy to miss while driving by, but don't miss it! I came in early - 4p on a Friday and sat at the bar where I had the amazing Emily serving me. She was a delight! She was friendly, helpful.... And adjusted a mezcal margarita to my liking (yum!) and then gave thoughtful personal recommendations on menu selections. Added bonus: she's got me advance planning an order of their posole next time I come in! I landed on their street taco mix-and-match trio: birria, pastor & carnitas (although there were some other options I want to try next time!). The birria is legendary and certainly lived up to the hype! The carnitas were super tender and moist, but a let down after the birria. The pastor was also phenomenal, and the small sides of rice and beans were also great! Their chips come with their Molcajete salsa and a tomatillo salsa- both fantastic, but man, that red was amazing! I'll be back for sure!
Reviewing: Amelia's Mexican Kitchen Rating: 5 out of 5 Address: 5851 N Oracle Rd Second location: 5553 E Grant Rd Hours: Mon-Thurs: 7-8:30pm / Fri-Sat: 7-9pm / Sun: 8-8pm. Order: 1. Quesabirria Tacos x4 (with caldo): $18.65 2. Horchata: $3.50 (FREE REFILLS!) 3. Burrito Bacado: $10.99 The quesabirria tacos were the best I've ever eaten hands down! No wonder they are award winning! Definitely a must try for sure! Nice little crunch and the meat was super juicy and tender, melt in your mouth type thing. The horchata was absolutely delicious and I was very surprised it was free refills as everywhere else I've been has never had free refills and definitely didn't taste as good either. The breakfast burrito was pretty good as well, definitely filled with all the fixings. Not the best I've had as I personally like my burritos more cooked on the outside for that crisp texture but it was pretty good. The waitress was very nice and pleasant and checked on us a few times which was nice. She did her job well. Definitely left a tip for her. I will definitely be returning soon!
Newly opened, Amelia's Mexican Kitchen is now serving on the NW side!! This tucked away little nook is BIG in service, take out and incredible food. Outdoor seating (functional but nothing special) and indoor seating accommodates many more than the outside portrays. A variety of authentic and delicious items on the menu. However, as much as I can't wait to try other items , Quesabirria is fantastic!!! I know I will keep ordering this again and again. I might add IMO the BEST Birria in TOWN! They start you off with chips and salsa and our food followed pretty quickly afterwards. They're doing a booming take out business (I'm already thinking Birria tonight) , but all those orders never affected out service or meal! Service was great! This is nothing special inside but a great meet up place for a group or 2 on date night. DO NOT OVERLOOK this spot. You'll be missing out if you do!! WELL DONE JOSE CONTRERAS!!
My partner and I noticed Amelia's when stopping by a nearby business and decided to give it a try. The staff was very friendly and seated us promptly. We enjoyed some chips and salsa while deciding what to order. I opted for Shrimp street tacos, and my partner got shrimp enchiladas. The three street tacos was a perfectly sized serving for me, and the dish was flavorful without being salty. My partner enjoyed his enchiladas too. Amelia's has an open, bright interior and is casual. It was busy the whole time we were there. We will go back if in the area.
They have done a great job renovating the restaurant! It has a fun, clean, vibrant feel, with murals, etc inside. The food is delicious as well! We've ordered breakfast (for pick up or dine in several times and everything is so good!). Waitstaff has been knowledgeable on what is/isn't gluten free in my experience (The red enchilada sauce is not gluten free, but the green is!). They have also been helpful with my son's food allergies (PN, TN, sesame)- he had eaten here several times, no issues. On our most recent visit, we had the molcajete (mixto- chicken, shrimp and avocado)- delicious! The sauce is so good- it has a kick for sure but also so many layers of flavor! We also had the fajitas mixtas (we had them with chicken and shrimp, no steak)- also a delicious flavor! They come out sizzling/steaming which was fun and exciting for the kids haha The mango margaritas are pretty and tasty as well!
I enjoyed the enchiladas con huevos--twice! Then on another visit, I enjoyed the quesabirria with soup. You can't go wrong with either of Amelia's locations. Superb Mexican food, one of Tucson's best! The location on Grant is smallish and you may have to wait. The Oracle location is roomy and conducive to group parties. You haven't eaten Mexican food in Tucson until you've tried Amelia's Mexican Kitchen! 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!
